Games developed by Remedy Entertainment are known for a peculiar taste of distinct features portraying real-life entertainment trends. Being a product of a big partnership with Microsoft Windows itself, this high profile game comes with some new stuff.
The game replicates a typical Hollywood movie. It is segmented into five different acts and with four videos of about twenty minutes in-between to give a more dramatic experience to gamers. It has a flowing storyline like a typical series movie with interregna. The main cast (protagonist if you like) is called “Jack Joyce”, whose main job is to make use of time-control abilities in containing issues of abnormal time flow and of a foreseen apocalypse of his world.
Quantum Break is an intelligent game in the sense that the decisions of the gamer become part of what the cut-scene videos display. The game might interest literature enthusiasts and scriptwriters in particular who might want to call it the fun side of serious playwriting. Jack is to challenge a continuum of foes as he advances in the game, making use of his time-control mechanism which immunes him from the abnormal time flow.
Three dominant sets of adversaries – Monarch guards, Juggernauts and Strikers advance against Jack, each with peculiar advances and mode of operations. Jack is also provided with varying forms of weapons as he advances. This weaponry ranges from those he could deploy for combat and others that could simply serve as added abilities which could or may not be deployed during combat such as “time stop”. This halts all attackers of Jack.
The game is perhaps the first Xbox game released in nexus with Microsoft’s Windows 10. The processes leading to its launch began in 2013, it lingered and became public April 2016. It has gained lots of attention, thanks particularly to the caliber of its developers. It has however faced some criticisms too from various quarters.
The main criticism usually leveled against Quantum Break is its pace. There was a change of plan during development according to sources and this resulted in making the game depict the concept of time itself. This accounts for the seemingly slow pace of action in the game. The game has been largely criticized for this and it seems the UX (the user experience) is not in sync with the UI (the original plan developers designed for users). Also, the cast of the videos in-between the game isn’t renowned actors in the movie industry, which gamers feel a high profile game as that could have provided.
